OJP4Danube’s main objective is the integration of cross-border/cross-organisational coordination mechanisms and the better technical and organisational alignment of transport operators and travel information service providers from different governance levels with regard to the development of a fully multimodal cross-border traveller information network – based on the novel and innovative approach of Open Journey Planning (OJP).
Specific focus is on sustainable transport for local journeys (including bike routes) and long-distance trips. Taking into account the missing strategic management for public transport efficiency and the lack of fully multimodal networks (incl. rail, PT, inland waterways, biking) in the DR, it will specifically tackle the necessary integration in regard to the coordination mechanism of institutions and regions.
The project is aiming at an approved alignment of transport operators and travel information service providers covering high-level corridors, regional and local networks. This alignment is envisaged at a technical level, but also from an organisational point of view. The objective is the development of a multimodal cross-border traveller information network connecting local and regional public transport networks with main transport corridors (railway) that shall be enriched with bike routes (e.g. EuroVelo routes) and cycling relevant travel info needed in multimodal trips.
The main cross-border corridors we are addressing are EuroVelo6 cycling routes and dedicated parts of the trans-European railway corridors (Orient/East-Mediterranean, Rhine-Danube, Mediterranean, Baltic) connecting Vienna-Bratislava-Budapest-Timisoara/- Bucharest/ Ljubljana-Zagreb-Budapest/Ljubljana-Vienna-Brno. The corridors shall be linked to local and regional railway and public transport. In the heart of our envisaged alignment is the strengthening of environmentally-friendly transport (including biking) for short and long-distance trips.
