| Course description: Economic characteristics of airline industry as a service industry, the elements of airline service. Features of air transport
demand, factors affecting air travel demand (general and specific). Elasticity of air travel demand, price elasticity for
different air travel demand segments. Air travel demand models, passenger choice models. Air transport markets, types of market
structures and examples, market share/frequency share S-curve model. Structure of airline operating costs, fix and variable
costs, direct and indirect operating costs, determinants of airline operating costs. Methods for assessment of aircraft exploitation
costs. Airline revenues, pricing strategies, break even analyses. Fleet acquisition, fleet amortization, types of leasing.
Airport as an economic entity. Technical and technological features of the airport from the perspective of business economics.
Economic characteristics of an airport. Organization of the airport from the perspective of business economics. Operating
and non-operating revenues and costs. Airport user charges and landing fees. The principles in setting airport charges. Development
and management of ancillary commercial services. Determining the need for investment in airport infrastructure. Airport infrastructure
financing. Air Traffic Control - economic issues, air navigation charges and their calculation.
