Course description: General concepts on port technology, port system and structure. Port as a system, characteristics and functions, conditions for port planning and design. The roles of the port in the triptych of the sea front - the port - the landscape. Globalization of transport and the impact on ports. Influence of intermodal technologies on port technology, geo-traffic position and gravitation area. Specialized ports, development and division, the impact of traffic demand on functioning. Basic facilities of ports, docks and terminals. Defining port system stakeholders. Influence of ship technologies on technical and technological characteristics of ports. Port operation, port evaluation and port competitiveness. Information and communication technologies in ports. The port system in the 21st century. The role of EU transport policy on the development of port systems. Intelligent port systems.
