Course description: Introduction to flight theory. International standard atmosphere. Physical characteristics of fluid. Basic laws of air flow. Aircraft flight speed measurement. Steady horizontal flight. Forces on aircraft. Subsonic and supersonic flight speeds. Geometric characteristics of aerofoils and wings. Influence of aerofoils and wing shape on aerodynamic features. Lifting mechanisms, spoilers and aerodynamic brakes. Aircraft classification. Basic principles of aircraft construction. The basic structural elements of an aircraft - aircraft wing, aircraft fuselage, tail surfaces, landing gear, powerplant. Aircraft systems. Helicopters. Weight and balance.
