Introduction

Curricula Vitae

I was born in Zagreb on January 2, 1984. After finishing the high-school education, in 2002 I enrolled in the graduate study at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, University of Zagreb. I defended my diploma thesis in 2007, reaching the master's degree. In 2008 I enrolled in the doctoral study Technical systems in Traffic and Transport at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences. I defended my doctoral thesis on May 28, 2014, with the topic “Assessing Quality of Experience of Video Streaming Service”. In February 2008 I started working on the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences as a research assistant. From July 2014 to July 2023 I worked in different roles at the Department for information-communication traffic, while from July 2023 I'm working as an associate professor at the same department. I teach classes on nine undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses:

a) Basics of Traffic Technology,
b) Telecommunication Traffic Technology I and II,
c) Queueing Systems,
d) Intelligent Transport Systems I and II,
e) Analysis and Modelling of Traffic Systems,
f) Experiment Design and
g) Application of Queueing Theory in Traffic System Design.

In December 2019 I was elected in the scientific title of senior scientific associate by the Master’s Board for Technical Sciences and the corresponding field. My primary areas of scientific interest include performance analysis and modeling of queuing systems, analysis, and evaluation of different services in different environments using objective and subjective criteria.

About my Work

Teaching
My main work and primary professional objective focus on the students and the teaching process. I always try to put myself in a student's skin and evaluate the resources I'm providing them (presentations, literature, seminars, videos…). To this end, I'm incredibly proud of my YouTube channel, where from 2016, I'm publishing video materials for students, helping them in their professional growth.
Mentoring
I have mentored over 60 students in their bachelor's and master's thesis. Honestly, not all students I mentored knocked me out of my shoes with their work, but many did. I know it is a cliche, but I'll say it anyway, it is really satisfactory to see how young people learn and start their professional careers. It makes me proud, and I hope I managed to give them at least a little push forward.
Publishing
To quote Michael Faraday (1791 - 1867) The secret of success of a scientific investigator is comprised of three words - work, finish, publish. I must say, the publishing part is not my favorite part of being a scientist. But I understand its importance, and, needless to say, I learned a lot by writing and reading scientific papers. I would not be the same man without it. If you are interested, follow the link.
Working on Projects
If publishing isn't so attractive, then working on projects indeed is. Nothing propelled my professional and personal growth like the projects I enjoyed working on. If I needed to single out one project, it would be CIVITAS ELAN, where I was surrounded by the niceset colleagues from all over Europe, and I'm lucky enough to call some of them my friends. And yes, we also did exciting work on it. More info about the projects can be found in the following section.
Designing web pages and apps
This is the newest addition to my portfolio. In 2018, I intensified learning about web development, web apps, UI/UX design by enrolling, from my view, one of the best WebDev teaching programs in Croatia at the Algebra University Colledge. One of my best decisions in life. It complemented my work at the Faculty and the quality of my teaching. For now, I have a few projects behind me, as you will learn if you scroll down.
Multimedia editing
As a side-effect of developing my YouTube channel containing video lectures, I learned a lot about video and sound editing, adding effects, producing the content, and using top-of-the-line multimedia tools from Adobe.
