Last week, the AWARE project partners ZHAW, TERN, and FTTS<\/strong> gathered in Zagreb at FTTS to launch an intensive data collection campaign aimed at training AWARE\u2019s algorithms. TERN<\/strong> <\/a>provided and set up the simulation software Polaris<\/em> and Orion<\/em>, enabling ATCO, pseudo-pilot, and feeder roles to run realistic Swedish traffic scenarios, and dedicated substantial time and effort to ensure the system\u2019s smooth operation. ZHAW<\/a><\/strong> contributed eye-tracking and physiological sensors to capture workload and intent assessment data from ATCOs, while FTTS<\/strong> not only offered facilities and organisational support but also took on the crucial role of collecting all data, mastering the operation of the different systems, and investing significant time to guarantee the successful execution of the campaign.<\/p>\n

A key role in this effort is played by Ukrainian ATCOs<\/strong>, who perform all roles in the simulations. After a demanding 20-hour journey, they first undergo training on the system before executing three different scenarios. One ATCO remains on site as a subject matter expert throughout the month, ensuring consistency and guidance.<\/p>\n

The first week focused on system setup and FTTS<\/a> training, with initial data already collected from two ATCOs. Moving forward, six ATCOs will participate each week. We are especially grateful for the commitment and dedication of the Ukrainian ATCOs, whose efforts including labeling their data for validation are vital to the success of the project.<\/p>\n\n
