We are proud to announce that students\u00a0Sandra Stipeti\u0107, Mila Ivankovi\u0107, Bruno Bili\u0107, and Matko Stipi\u010devi\u0107\u00a0<\/strong>from the\u00a0Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, University of Zagreb<\/strong>, have been awarded the\u00a0Rector\u2019s Award\u00a0<\/strong>for the academic year 2024\/2025 in the category of team scientific and artistic work. This prestigious recognition is a testament to their dedication, knowledge, and excellence in scientific research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their work, titled\u00a0\u201cDevelopment of a YOLO model for drone detection in thermal images,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0was conducted at the\u00a0Department of Aeronautics<\/strong>\u00a0under the mentorship of\u00a0assoc. prof. dr. sc. Tomislav Radi\u0161i\u0107<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research focuses on developing and training an object detection model capable of identifying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in thermal imagery. By combining visual and thermal datasets collected using drones equipped with dual cameras, the team developed a model capable of detecting UAVs even in low-visibility conditions such as night, fog, or smoke. This work contributes to the advancement of airspace monitoring, surveillance, and drone safety systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
