The paper is available at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2076-3417\/10\/14\/4917\">Open Access<\/a>&nbsp;with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.3390\/app10144917\">DOI: 10.3390\/app10144917<\/a>. This paper was written in the co-authorship of Assoc. Prof. Edouard Ivanjko with his Ph.D. students Kre\u0161imir Ku\u0161i\u0107, mag.ing.traff. and Mladen Mileti\u0107, mag. ing. traff., and postdoc Martin Greguri\u0107, Ph.D., and presents the results of detailed review analysis of the possibilities of applying reinforcement learning for variable speed limit control on urban motorways, including open problems. The paper results from a yearlong work of the authors and common research goal to implement a traffic control system for urban motorways to improve the Level of Service and reduce the environmental impact of road traffic.
