On September 21, 2020, a funding agreement\nfor the project named “Control system of the spatial-temporal variable\nspeed limit in the environment of connected vehicles” was signed between a\nPh.D. candidate Kre\u0161imir Ku\u0161i\u0107 and the Scientific Foundation of the Faculty of\nTransport and Traffic Sciences (https:\/\/www.fpz.unizg.hr\/zaklada\/).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The contract’s total value is 49,989.84 kn.\nThe project is funded under the Foundation called “Smart Traffic\nSolution”. The project team would like to thank the Faculty of Transport\nand Traffic Sciences (FTTS) to establish a Scientific Foundation to support\nPh.D. students in their research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project goals:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Determine the impact of the spatial\nlocation of the Variable Speed Limit (VSL) zone on traffic flow optimization in\ncongested areas of an urban motorway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Develop the adaptable spatial-temporal\nVSL system using multi-policy optimization techniques in multi-agent\nenvironments, emphasizing collaboration between VSL agents for better flow\noptimization using Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning-based techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Finally, we will test the developed\nsystem on various traffic scenarios with varying flow homogeneity containing\nsimulations of vehicles with certain autonomous levels concerning speed control\n(e.g., Intelligent Speed Adaptation system).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
