A Ryanair flight from London to Osijek had to circle above the city for several minutes after an air traffic controller did not arrive for duty on time, according to Dnevnik.hr.
The aircraft remained in contact with the Zagreb control centre, and passenger safety was not compromised. The incident once again highlighted the importance of clearly defined procedures, coordination and responsibility in air traffic control.
For Dnevnik Nova TV, Prof. Biljana Juričić, PhD, Head of the Department of Aeronautics at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, commented on the role of air traffic controllers and the safety systems that reduce the possibility of human error in aviation.
