In 1962 Studies of Postal, Telephone and Telegraph Services was founded which is be considered as the beginning of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences. In 1965 a specialized institution – Institute of Transportation Sciences was initiated and financially rendered by thirteen companies and associations of the Republic of Croatia.
In 1968 the Faculty of Civil Engineering organized the Transport and Traffic Programme to educate bachelor-degree experts in this field in cooperation with the professors from various faculties of the University of Zagreb, more specifically: Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture and Faculty of Law.
The need for University-degree and Polytechnics-degree experts in road transport initiated the founding of Road Transport Polytechnics in 24 Kraljevićeva street in 1970.
Air transport programme was organized in 1972 when Aeronautical Polytechnics in Zagreb was established, at first having two courses of study: air-transport and aeronautical and later on aero-technical course of study as well.
Transport Sciences Centar was established in 1981 along with two other institutions: Transport Sciences College and the Institute of Traffic Sciences dealing with scientific-educational and scientific-research work respectively.
During the whole period that Transport and Traffic Joint Study existed, the railway transport programme did exist as well, but the 13th of April 1982 is considered as the date it was founded, when the resolution was issued which states that The Programme of Traffic Sciences of the University of Zagreb fulfils all the requirements for the organisation and conduct of teaching process.
A great deal of effort was put into establishing the transport and traffic programme and in finding its rightful place in the tertiary education system at the University of Zagreb.
The Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences is located at three sites in the City of Zagreb: 4 Vukelićeva Street, 2 Kušlanova Street and Borongaj Campus, 83 Borongajska Street. The Faculty also has premises at Airfield Lučko.
There are 180 employees working at the Faculty; 121 members of teaching staff and 59 in administrative and other services.
