Course description:
Course provides knowledge of warehouse transport and storage from the aspect of supply chain. It consist of these topics: Basics of performance measurement, Division of warehouses (I, II), Warehouse site selection factors, Definition of basic storage operations, Unit loads, Warehouse operations, Commissioning and the organization of collection of goods, Picking systems, Storage equipment, Forklifts, Organization of goods flow and storage, Automated guided vehicles, Virtual storage, Optimizing warehouse operations.
Learning outcomes will result in student’s perception of warehouse transport and storage systems in use and will be able to:

  1. Define the basic terms of storage, to separate methods of measuring their effectiveness, identify and optimize the service and procceses inside the warehouse.
  2. Evaluate the effectiveness of certain parameters of storage operations and explain the advantages and disadvantages of existing storage systems.
  3. On the proposed project example to sugest a warehouse and storage process solutions.
  4. Apply methods for optimization of individual process (receipt, storage, manipulation, picking), adjust the storage facilities according to the logistics systems.
  5. To collect and systematize data for monitoring the efficiency of storage systems.
  6. Write an essay on a given topic or idea of connecting the parts together. Make conclusions based on calculations and choose the most suitable solutions.
