Department of Intelligent Transport Systems

Assistant Professor from the Department of ITS on Academic Mobility in Thessaloniki, Greece

Assistant Professor from the Department of Intelligent Transport Systems, Dr. Krešimir Vidović, has returned from an academic mobility stay conducted at the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT), which is part of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). The main objective of HIT is to conduct and support applied research activities in the field of transport in Greece, specifically concerning issues related to organization, operations, planning and infrastructure development, standardization, economic analysis, management, vehicle technology, and impact assessment of land, maritime, air, and multimodal transport services. The host of the visit was Dr. Evangelos Mitsakis, Director of Development at the Hellenic Institute of Transport, together with his associates.

During the mobility, the following projects and research results were presented:

  1. Application of big data sets in traffic engineering and the design of related Intelligent Transportation Systems services
  2. Recent developments on the generation of traffic data from mobile network operator data and its integration into National Access Points
  3. H2020 OLGA (Holistic And Green Airport) project – “IT solution for multimodality and traffic flow optimization, design and validation”
  4. Sustainable Urban Mobility Boost Smart Toolbox

Additionally, joint research activities were agreed upon, which will include the exploration of the application of big data analytics from the telecommunications environment and the development of a concept for integration into the traffic management system of the city of Thessaloniki, as well as activities on cross-border population movement analysis between Croatia and Greece based on telecommunications network data.
