Zagreb, January 24, 2025 – As part of the CroQCI (Croatian Quantum Communication Infrastructure) project, Croatia has successfully implemented a network of dark optical fibers, forming the foundation for the future national quantum communication network. The network’s planning and conceptual design were carried out by the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences at the University of Zagreb, while the operational implementation was conducted by the company Odašiljači i veze (OIV). The dark optical fiber network marks a historic step toward establishing ultra-secure data transmission systems, which are crucial for protection against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats and challenges posed by the development of new technologies.
