Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, 14.12.2024, 14:00

On Thursday, December 12, 2024, the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences at the University of Zagreb participated in the University E-Learning Day, held at the University Computing Centre in Zagreb (SRCE). During the event, the development of e-learning at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences was presented, highlighting its benefits for both instructors and students, including increased student motivation, improved exam pass rates, and innovative teaching approaches.

In his opening address, the Vice Dean for Education and Students, Assoc. Prof. Ivan Grgurević, PhD, emphasized that the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences has consistently applied digital technologies in education over the past 20 years. The focus on e-learning and the implementation of innovative methods are evidence of the Faculty"s commitment to innovation, modernization of the educational process, and preparing professionals equipped to face future challenges.

He also highlighted that over the past two decades, the Faculty has built a strong e-learning infrastructure, starting with its proprietary LMS/DMS system, followed by the implementation of the Merlin system, and eventually integrating the most advanced tools and methods in teaching. Today, the Faculty offers more than 500 e-courses, used by over 1,500 students.

As an example of best e-learning practices, the course Basics of Traffic Engineering was presented by one of its coordinators, Assoc. Prof. Pero Škorput, PhD. This course, attended by more than 300 first-year students enrolled in the undergraduate university program Traffic, employs innovative methods such as gamification and personalized digital content. These approaches encourage active participation, individualized learning, and plans for implementing a flipped classroom model.

Through this event, the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences has once again reaffirmed its role as a leader in the digital transformation of higher education in the Republic of Croatia.
