At the University of Bahrain, an invited lecture was held on the iRAP – International Road Assessment Programme, an international program for assessing the safety of road infrastructure. The lecture was jointly delivered by Assoc. Prof. Marko Ševrović, PhD, Bojan Jovanović, PhD (Senior Assistant at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences), and Juraj Leonard Vertlberg, MSc Traff. Eng.
The presentation placed special emphasis on the Safe System concept and the use of iRAP methodology and protocols as tools for systematically identifying risks, reducing the number of traffic accidents, and improving safety levels. The speakers highlighted the importance of internationally harmonized standards that enable data comparability and the development of effective measures to enhance road infrastructure safety.
In this context, Bahrain has proven to be an example of a country strongly investing in science, education, and transport infrastructure, positioning itself among the most advanced states in the region and reaffirming its role as a reliable partner in future research and development projects.
The value of this event also lies in opening opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the University of Zagreb, the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, and the University of Bahrain. Joint research projects, knowledge transfer, and international experience can have a long-term impact on the development of road safety and sustainable mobility.
This lecture reaffirmed the importance of academic exchange and international cooperation as key prerequisites for building safer transport systems in the future.
